Natural hair and skincare brand Carol’s daughter has launched the #BornAndMade campaign, asking women to upload an old and new image of themselves, and explain how they have evolved.
After a similar campaign last year, the brand got OITNB actress Dacsha Polanco, among others, to promote the initiative with a video exploring her journey to who she is today.
“When we launched ‘Born and Made’ last year it was exciting,” Lisa Price, the founder of Carol’s Daughter, told ESSENCE.com.
“We were celebrating the brand, I was celebrating me and we invited other women to celebrate who they were.”
Growing up I wanted straight hair like all the other little girls. And, after lots of begging, crying, and this lovely mullet that my mother cut herself, she finally took me to a salon. — The perm burned and the press burned, and I cried & cried. When the stylist turned me around, I cried some more because my hair was poofy and definitely not the sleek & straight style I had envisioned. A couple days passed, my hair was curly again & my head was covered in scabs. — My hair is always reminding me of who I am & not who I'm trying to be. It took me a minute to listen, but the moment I did, is when I became who I'm supposed to be💚. #BornandMade #CarolsDaughter
“What we found out was that not only did they share amazing photos and cool words in their widgets, but they also shared amazing stories about their journeys.”
